Competition Programmes for Cellists

Age group B (up to 13 years of age)

Preliminary Round (YouTube link)

  2. One melodic piece

The presented pieces do not have to be from the programme of the competition.

Round I

  1. Tõnu Kaumann Specially commissioned piece: Lonkuri tango (“Limping Tango”) Score (pdf, 231 KB); Cello Score (pdf, 95 KB)
  2. J. S. Bach One movement from a suite for solo cello
  3. One melodic piece
  4. One virtuoso piece

Duration of the programme in Round I should not exceed 20 minutes.

FINAL – accompanied by chamber orchestra

One of the following cello concertos:

    • Luigi Boccherini Concerto in G major, G480 (Cadenza is free of choice), movement I
    • A. Vivaldi Concerto in A minor, RV 418 (PV 35) – movement I

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetitions.

Age group C  (14 – 15 years of age)

  1. Etude
  2. One melodic piece

Round I

  1. Riho Maimets Emphasis , and Violin part
  2. J.S. Bach Prelude and Sarabande from one of the following suites for solo cello:
    • No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007
    • No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1008
    • No. 3 in C major, BWV 1009
  3. One melodic piece
  4. One virtuoso piece

Duration of the programme in Round I should not exceed 25 minutes.

FINAL – accompanied by chamber orchestra

One of the following concertos:

    • Luigi Boccherini Cello Concerto in D major, G. 479, – movement I
    • J. Haydn Concerto in C major, Hob.VIIb:1, – movement I

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetitions.
