Competition Programme for Cellists

Age category A  – children up to 10 years of age (born after May 1, 2008)

Preliminary Round (DVD or YouTube link)

  1. One study
  2. One melodic piece

The presented pieces do not have to be from the programme of the competition.

Round I

  1. One of the following new works by Estonian composers:
    • Mari Amor Muusikaline moment ( “Musical Moment”)  Score (pdf, 274 KB);  Cello Score (pdf, 123 KB)
    • Tõnis Kaumann Kummituste tants (“Dance of the Ghosts”)   Score (pdf, 1.1 MB);   Cello Score (pdf, 1.0 MB)
  2. One melodic piece
  3. One virtuous piece

Duration of the programme in Round I should not exceed 15 minutes.

Round II – accompanied by chamber orchestra

One of the following concertos:

  • A.Vivaldi Concerto in C major, RV 399, movement 1
  • A.Vivaldi Concerto in A minor, P.V.24 – F.III, No. 4, movements 1 and 2 or 2 and 3
  • J. B. Breval Concertino in A major, movement 1

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetitions.

Age category B – children 11 – 13 years of age (born between May 1, 2005 – May 1, 2008)

Round I

  1. Tõnu Kaumann Specially commissioned piece: Lonkuri tango (“Limping Tango”) Score (pdf, 231 KB); Cello Score (pdf, 95 KB)
  2. J. S. Bach One part from a suite for solo cello
  3. One melodic piece
  4. One masterly piece

Duration of the programme in Round I should not exceed 20 minutes.

Round II – accompanied by chamber orchestra

One of the following concertos:

  • Luigi Boccherini Cello Concerto in G major, G480 (Cadenza is free of choice).
  • J. Haydn Concerto in C major, Hob.VIIb:1, movement 1

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetitions.
