Competition Programmes for Violinists

Age group B (up to 13 years of age)

Preliminary Round (YouTube link)

    1. One study
    2. One piece of the contestant’s own choice

The presented pieces do not have to be from the programme of the competition.

Round I

  1. Tõnis Kaumann’s specially commissioned piece: Võimalik missioon (“Mission possible”) Score (pdf, 318 KB), Score – solo (pdf, 114 KB)
  2. G. Ph. Telemann’s two movements from one of the 12 Fantasias for Solo Violin (12 Fantasias for Solo Violin, TWV 40:14–25)
  3. The first movement from one of the following sonatinas for piano and violin (to be performed without repetition)
    • F. Schubert Sonatina for Piano and Violin in D major, Op 137 No 1, D 384
    • F. Schubert Sonatina for Piano and Violin in G minor, Op 137 No 3, D 384
    • A. Dvořák Sonatina for Piano and Violin in G major, Op 100
  4. One piece of a virtuoso character

Duration of the programme in Round I should not exceed 20 minutes.

FINAL – accompanied by chamber orchestra

One of the following violin concertos:

  • J. S. Bach Concerto in A minor, BWV 1041, movements 2 and 3
  • J. Haydn Concerto in G major, Hob.VIIa:4, movement 1

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetitions.

Age group C (14 – 15 years of age)

Preliminary Round (YouTube link)

  1. A substantial concert piece of free choice
  2. An etude from the following list of composers and works:
    • H. Wieniawski Etude-Caprices op. 10 & op.18
    • J. Dont 24 Caprices, op.35
    • H. Vieuxtemps 6 Concert-Etudes, op.16
    • P. Rode 12 Etudes and 24 Caprices

Round I

  1. Riho Maimets  Deluge and Violin part
  2. A freely chosen complete sonata by A. Corelli, Op. 5 (excluding No. 8)
  3. A substantial concert piece of free choice

Duration of the programme of Round I should not exceed 25 minutes.

FINAL – accompanied by chamber orchestra

One of the following violin concertos by W. A. Mozart:

    • No. 3 in G major, KV 216 – movement I
    • No. 4 in D major, KV 218 – movement I
    • No. 5 in A major, KV 219 – movement I

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetitions.
