Competition Programmes for Violinists

Age category A – children up to 10 years of age (born after May 1, 2008)

Preliminary Round (DVD or YouTube link)

  1. One study
  2. One piece of the contestant’s own choice

The presented pieces do not have to be from the programme of the competition.

Round I

  1. Riho Esko Maimets Rehepeksu ringmäng („Threshing Game”)  Score (pdf, 111 KB), Score – violin (pdf, 82 KB)
  2. One extensive piece or two pieces of different character

Duration of the programme in Round I should not exceed 15 minutes.

Round II – accompanied by chamber orchestra

One of the following concertos:

  • A. Vivaldi Concerto in A minor, Op.3, No.6, movements 2 and 3
  • J. S. Bach Concerto in A minor, BWV No.1041, movement 1
  • A.Vivaldi Concerto in E major, Op.3, No.12, movement 1

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetitions.

Age category B – children 11 – 13 years of age (born between May 1, 2005 – May 1, 2008)

The presented pieces do not have to be from the programme of the competition.

Round I

  1. Tõnis Kaumann Specially commissioned piece: Võimalik missioon (“Mission possible”) Score (pdf, 318 KB), Score – solo (pdf, 114 KB)
  2. G. Ph. Telemann Two movements from one of the 12 Fantasias for Solo Violin (12 Fantasias for Solo Violin, TWV 40:14–25)
  3. The first movement from one of the following sonatinas for piano and violin (to be performed without repetition)
    • F. Schubert Sonatina for Piano and Violin in D major, Op 137 No 1, D 384
    • F. Schubert Sonatina for Piano and Violin in G minor, Op 137 No 3, D 384
    • A. Dvořák Sonatina for Piano and Violin in G major, Op 100
  4. One piece of a virtuos character

Duration of the programme in Round I should not exceed 20 minutes.

Round II – accompanied by chamber orchestra

One of the following concertos:

  • J. S. Bach Concerto in A minor, BWV 1041, movements 2 and 3
  • J. Haydn Concerto in G major, Hob.VIIa:4, movement 1

All pieces must be performed from memory and without repetitions.
